The rose-themed poems began in the Southern Dynasties and were not widely written by literati until the Tang Dynasty, thereby extending their rich cultural connotations. First of all, roses often appeared in courtyards and other places of literati feasts, and were circulating through literati chanting, singing and presenting, which witnessed the close contacts among literati groups. Secondly, the Tang Dynasty’s poets described roses through visual sense, tactile sense and the sense of smell, thus roses were endowed with personified characteristics in the process of chanting.Thirdly, another synonym for rose--"scarlet blood"was created in the Tang Dynasty, which brought new meaning to Tang poetry. In addition, roses growing in different areas signified different emotion and became the carrier of one’s ambition and feelings. Based on the analysis of the cultural connotation of roses, the main implication of the rosethemed poems in the Tang Dynasty is analyzed, and it can be found that roses have universally symbolic significance besides showing poets’ personality.
