Exposition of WU Wei-ping’s treatment for lung diseases according to analysis of phlegm problem

武维屏教授认为,"咳"和"痰"是肺系病最重要的症状,且二者密不可分。武经屏教授结合自己50余年的临床经验,在临床中抓住咯痰量、色、质、味的变化,详细观察和总结了痰的特征和伴随症状的特点,总结了肺系病临床常见的10种证候,即寒痰、热痰、燥痰、湿痰、风痰、郁痰、食痰、饮痰、瘀痰、顽痰,据此分类进行辨证治疗,取得了良好的疗效。

It is believed by professor WU Wei-ping that’cough’and’phlegm’are two main symptoms in lung diseases and they are closely related to each other.In her over 50 years of clinical experience,she found that after she got hold of the changes of the amount of the phlegm coughed up,its color,quality and smell alongside keen observation of the features of the phlegm and associated symptoms,she came to the conclusion that there were 10 patterns of lung diseases,i.e.lung disease due to cold-phlegm,heat-phlegm,dryness-phlegm,dampness-phlegm,wind-phlegm,lingering phlegm,food retention-phlegm,morbid fluid-phlegm,obstinate phlegm,and stubborn-phlegm.From above syndrome differentiation and treatment were applied with favorable effect.
