This paper expounds the current situation and legal basis of public participation in national forest management planning in the United States,details the relevant considerations,participants,ways and steps of public participation in the process of national forest management planning in the United States,and summarizes the characteristics of public participation,then the enlightenment of strengthening public participation in the process of national forest management planning in China is put forward:1)Improve the laws and regulations of public participation in national forest management planning;2)Expand public participation channels;3)Improve the public supervision mechanism of national forest management plans;4)Cultivate public awareness of national forest management plans.
