As a basic cellular degradation mechanism in eukaryotes, autophagy plays an important role in maintaining the stability of intracellular environment.Autophagy has become a central regulatory point to control the stability of human internal environment from regulating the basic metabolic function of cells to various diseases. In recent years, autophagy abnormalities have been found to occur in mental diseases, suggesting that autophagy may be a part of the pathophysiological process of certain mental diseases. This article reviews the research progress on autophagy and its correlation with common mental diseases, such as depression, schizophrenia and autism spectrum disorder, etc.
