This study explores the effects of language on music understanding and music on language understanding through two ways of simultaneous presentation and sequential presentation of music and language. The results show that, in terms of music comprehension, although the correct title promotes the brain’s music comprehension, the lyrics(presented at the same time) and the wrong title(presented first) make the brain’s processing of music comprehension lag behind. As far as language understanding is concerned, when music and language are presented at the same time, preferred background music will neither promote nor hinder language understanding, and unfavorable background music will interfere with the brain’s language understanding. However, when the two are presented one after the other, the preferred leading music promotes language understanding, while the unfavorable leading music does not affect the brain’s language understanding. These results not only reveal the complex relationship between music and language, but also reflect the different response patterns of the brain to the effects of music and language, and finally provide new evidence for the relationship between music and language from the perspective of cognitive neuroscience.
