“Place”has become the core category of contemporary ecological criticism.American Indian literature has unique local views and ecological views. This paper attempts to explore the local consciousness and environmental consciousness reflected in the novel Solar Storms by Linda Hogan. The root cause of the environmental crisis and survival dilemma faced by modern Indians is the lack of the sense of place. In the view of traditional Indian land culture, people realize they need to restore and establish the intimate relationship between human and places and to gain self-identity.Moreover,the establishment of the sense of place will develop people’s sense of loyalty and sense of responsibility to the place, with which they will consciously uphold the environmental justice to care for and protect the place.
