浅谈从歌剧《蝴蝶夫人》中表现的东方主义与性别问题

A Brief Discussion on Orientalism and Gender Issues in the Opera Madame Butterfly

歌剧《蝴蝶夫人》讲述日本艺伎巧巧桑与美国海军士兵平克顿的悲剧爱情故事。女主人公天真善良,轻信了平克顿的甜言蜜语,最后被平克顿抛弃,她选择切腹自尽结束了自己的生命。其中歌剧中涉及到的东方主义与性别问题的研究是具有意义的。歌剧《蝴蝶夫人》中的人物形象、情节、角色等显示东方主义及东西方性别观念,突显了东西方文化的差异,但对东方的认识有其肤浅之处。

The opera Madame Butterfl y tells the tragic love story of Japanese geisha Cho-cho-San and American Marine Pinkerton.The heroine,who is innocent and kind-hearted,believes in Pinkerton’s sweet words,and gets abandoned by Pinkerton and commits seppuku to end her own life.It is of signifi cance to study orientalism and gender issues involved in the opera.The characters,plots and roles in Madame Butterfl y can show orientalism and gender concepts of the East and the West,highlighting the cultural diff erences between the east and the West;however,the opera doesn’t show deeping understanding of the East.
