An Introduction to the Gesar Epic The chief editor is Norbu Wangten.Epic Gesar,aka the Legend of King Gesar,is called the only"living"epic in the world,preserved by singers and storytellers who perform episodes of the vast oral narrative,and inscribed on the representative list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.This book is a joint effort led by the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology in Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and accomplished by a team of contemporary Gesar scholars from Tianjin University,Nankai University,and Yunnan University.
