“喜福会”:乌托邦式华裔女性共同体

"The Joy Luck Club":Utopian Chinese-American Women's Community

文章运用共同体理论,结合中美社会文化语境,通过分析谭恩美在《喜福会》中建构的女性共同体,考察女性共同体的内涵与缺陷。文章认为,谭恩美建构了一个华裔女性共同体,它以颠覆性别和种族压迫为目标,以母女亲情与姐妹情谊为情感纽带,以“喜福会”为共存空间,为华裔女性化解自我与文化身份危机、寻找归属感提供了有用的场域。但是,这一共同体就其本质而言乃是想象性的建构,体现了一定程度的“母性谱系”和西方认知结构下的“东方主义”特色,是消极的构建,为“乌托邦”的愿景。在当下的世界语境中,华裔群体应当团结整个群体的力量,建构和谐共生的共同体,真正提升华裔的整体社会地位和价值。

This article,in light of community theory combined with Chinese and American socio-cultural context,explores the Chinese-American women's community constructed by Amy Tan in The Joy Luck Club to examine its connotations and defects.Tan constructs such a community to seek a sense of belonging,with the pursuit of gender and racial equality as their common political goal,mother-daughter relationship and sisterhood as the emotional bond,and the"Joy Luck Club"as a common space for women.This community provides useful inspiration for Chinese American women to resolve the crisis of their cultural identity and obtain a sense of belonging.However,the essence of this community is an imaginative construction,reflecting a certain degree of"maternal genealogy"and"Orientalism"under the western cognitive structure.Hence,it is negative construction and a vision of“utopia”.In the current world context,Chinese Americans should unite the power of the whole Chinese community to build a harmonious community,improve their overall social status and value,and seek a healthier development in the western world.
