Yi zhuan(i.e.,the Ten Wings)extends and transfers the ethical relationship of human beings’family to the universe as a big world of life,believing that nature is not a cold mechanical world,but an organic,harmonious integrity of heaven,earth and human beings.Nature and its temporal and spatial order represented by the eight trigrams is not a“physical”world,but a nature that carries strong humanistic emotions,a nature of life that is closely connected with human emotion,will,and virtue.The symbolic meaning of the theory of the universal big family in the Yi zhuan and the ethical spirit in the unity of heaven and human beings,the unity of human beings and the myriad things,and the relationship between One and diversity have been interpreted by Zhang Zai(1020-1077),Cheng Yi(1033-1107),Zhu Xi(1130-1200),and Wang Fuzhi(1619-1692),and has become a basic picture of the universe,a mode of thinking,aprinciple of value,and Chinese people’s highest understanding of the meaning of life.The theory of a big family of heaven and earth,the outlook that the larger life formed by heaven and human beings shares the same origin conceived in the Yi zhuan,is the source and traditional resources for cultivating contemporary ecological philosophy,ecological ethics,ecological aesthetic education,and ecological affections.
