罗宾逊身体翻译学下《虹》中两个哲学术语之释译

Translation of the Two Philosophical Terms in The Rainbow from D.Robinson’s Somatics of Translation

劳伦斯是哲人作家,崇尚直觉,追求本真,并从生命本源角度探究了本真何在。《虹》主人公也对生命本源、本真生命做了直觉探寻。这就意味着,读者需发挥直觉,才能更好地理解人物和主题。生命本源,不能知,也不可道,被权称为“未知”“神秘”“上帝”“无限”“永恒”等等。这些术语相当于中国哲学中的本体——“道”,而非基督教中的“上帝”。这就要求译者结合身体直觉和理性辨析进行翻译。把《虹》中表示生命本源之词释译为“道”,将“内在生命”“唯一之真”译为“本真生命”,看似不对等,但却实现了D.罗宾逊所倡导的读者反应对等。

Lawrence is both a writer and philosopher.Seeking for true identity,he makes an intuitive exploration of it from the perspective of the Source of all life.Likewise,the protagonists in The Rainbow make similar explorations.This requires readers to employ intuition for a better understanding of their pursuits.The Source of life,unknown and unspeakable,is termed respectively as“the unknown”,“Mystery”,“God”,“the infinite”or“Eternity”,for convenience.These terms,however,are essentially equivalent to the noumenon“Tao”in Chinese philosophy instead of“God”in Christianity.Therefore,it is vital to combine one’s body with brain in translating.It seems unequal to translate the above-mentioned terms into“Tao”,and render“life within”,“the only reality”into“true identity”endowed by Tao,but yet achieves a reader-response equivalence advocated by D.Robinson.
