In its 30 years of operation,the Open University of Hong Kong(OUHK)has become an internationally recognized paragon in open and distance education by adhering to the philosophy of open education,with the mission of having education without discrimination as its purpose,scientific research and development as its direction,based on the local area,building a solid foundation of quality.While focusing on the research of local adults’development,OUHK explored the frontiers of academia with an international outlook and built a strong foundation of quality at home and abroad.Over the years,OUHK has provided high-quality education for adult students,in order to improve their personality and skills and serve the society better than ever before.This paper attempts to explore the successful factors of OUHK in school-running concept,scientific research,student support service,teacher development and quality control so as to provide beneficial reference for the construction of the open universities in Guangdong and the Mainland.
