The Construction and Flaws of Mencius’s Theory of Goodness of Nature

孟子的性善论在千年来一直是儒家传统思想的主流,它在教化民众向善、稳定社会秩序以及塑造中华民族性格等方面都发挥着十分重要的作用,直到今天都潜移默化地影响着我们的生活。随着近代西方哲学思想的传入,许多学者开始从现代西方哲学的视野来重新审视性善论,并在一些方面发现它的不足,其中最主要的便是孟子在论证性善论时所存在的逻辑缺陷。因此,我们一方面要通过全新的西方哲学的视角来加深对孟子性善论思想的理解,另一方面也不能完全沉浸于西方哲学,要把握好中国哲学的本质特征,只要这样才能真正体悟到孟子性善论的精髓。

Mencius’s theory of good nature has been the mainstream of traditional Confucian thought for thousands of years.It has played a very important role in educating people for goodness,stabilizing social order,and shaping the character of the Chinese.It has been affecting our lives subtly until today.With the introduction of modern Western philosophical thoughts,many scholars began to re-examine the theory of goodness of nature from the perspective of modern Western philosophy,and discovered its shortcomings in some aspects.The most important thing is that Mencius demonstrated the theory of goodness of nature.Therefore,on the one hand,we must deepen our understanding of Mencius’s theory of good nature through a new perspective of Western philosophy.On the other hand,we must not be completely immersed in Western philosophy.We must grasp the essential characteristics of Chinese philosophy.Only in this way can we truly understand the essence of the theory.
