Food is not only the"physical object"to meet people's basic survival needs,but also contains a kind of life attitude and spiritual pursuit.The food images in Wang Zengqi's novels,such as Being Disciplined and The Special Gift disclose the plain joy of people living in the countryside,revealing their optimistic andopen-minded life philosophy.In both novels.food reflects the worldly life of monks and the human touch of or-dinary people respectively,highlighting the integration of material and spirit,survival and living,and physical and psychological aspects of the protagonists.Taking"food"as the lead,this paper attempts to grasp different implications of food in Being Disciplined and The Special Gift.
