生肖是一种独特的表示出生时间的方式,属相(生肖动物)承载着浓厚的中华民族文化信息,绝非随机选择的产物。一名之立,旬月踟蹰。生肖英译处理的虽是12个属相,译者面对的却是两大片文化。从中西文化重合、冲突、空白、兼容四个方面探析英译属相的最佳版本。十二生肖英译不仅要“以我为准”,还要“以我为尊”。

Zodiac signs are a unique way of marking one's birth year.Zodiac animals are not arbitrarily chosen,for they carry thick cultural information of the Chinese people.Pithy wording demands deep thinking.Rooted in Chinese,the 12 Zodiac animals and their English names may carry different cultural meanings.From the four aspects of culture overlap,culture conflict,cultural default and culture compatibility this paper explores and analyses the ideal English versions of the Twelve Zodiac signs.This paper argues that when translating Chinese Zodiac animals,we should do our best to preserve the Chinese culture.
