Since the 21 st century, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area has gradually grown into a polycentric city cluster with Guangzhou and Shenzhen-Hong Kong as the two major development nuclei, and Foshan,Dongguan, and Zhongshan as the regional sub-centers,and is actively building an industry dominated by advanced manufacturing. The structural system and industrial layout are constantly changing. There is still a big gap in the development level between the core cities and peripheral cities in the Greater Bay Area, mainly facing problems such as weak industrial linkages, insufficient deep integration between cities, unclear positioning of the third-tier cities, population, and the gradual decline of traditional processing foreign trade dividends. At present,in order to promote the coordinated economic development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area,it is necessary to strengthen regional industrial linkages and increase economic spillover effects;establish a regional development coordination mechanism to achieve a reasonable allocation of resources;clarify the development positioning of the third-tier cities and strengthen the linkage between peripheral regions and core cities;and take advantage of the“Belt and Road”construction and development opportunities to stimulate new economic growth points.
