Library Writing in the Late Qing Novels and Its Modern Significance

近代藏书方式的变迁是晚清知识转型的一个表征。公共图书馆的出现不仅改变了晚清士人的求知方式,也影响了他们的文学表达。20世纪初,图书馆开始成为小说的表现对象。围绕藏书、编目、读者,晚清小说通过图书馆书写亦真亦幻、亦实亦虚地讨论了知识的源流、秩序与功能等问题,以矛盾和抵牾的方式留存了晚清知识转型的诸多面相。这种书写包蕴了晚清士人驳杂的知识经验、知识体系与知识观念,从对象、体验、观念等层面丰富了晚清小说的现代性。

The change of modern book collection mode is a representation of the knowledge transformation in the late Qing Dynasty.The appearance of public library not only changed the way of seeking knowledge of scholars in the late Qing Dynasty,but also affected their literary expression.At the beginning of the 20th century,the library began to become the object of the novel.Focusing on the items of collection,catalogue and readers of the library,the late Qing novels discussed the source,order and function of knowledge by way of either true or imaginary manner,which retained many aspects of knowledge transformation in the late Qing Dynasty in a contradictory and conflicting way.This kind of writing contained the complex knowledge experience,knowledge system and knowledge concept of scholars in late Qing Dynasty,and enriched the modernity of the late Qing novels from the aspects of object,experience and concept.
