容闳自传五种译本对比研究:译者身份视角

A Comparison of Five Translations of YungWing’s Autobiography from the Perspective of Translators’Identity

晚清学者容闳自传My Life in China and America是研究晚清历史的重要文献。该书现存五种汉译本各具特色,译者身份各异:或为编辑、或为历史学者、或为翻译学者。本文拟从译者身份视角对比不同译本,试图揭示译者身份对译本各个方面的影响以及不同身份译者在翻译过程中关注的焦点,以期对当下历史文本翻译提供启示。研究表明,不同身份译者对文本的处理方式不尽相同,关注的焦点亦各不相同,表现出了不同的倾向性。

Late-Qing scholar Yung Wing’s autobiographyMy Life in China and America is an important literature for the study of late-Qing history.Currently it has five translations,each with its own unique features and a translator/translators with a different identity:editor,historian,or translation scholar.This thesis conducts a comparison between the five translations from the perspective of translators’identity,attempting to disclose the effects of translators’identity on various aspects of the translations,and different foci of different translators during the process of translating,for the purpose of shedding some light on translation of historical texts in the present age.The study shows that translators with different identities approach the text in different ways with different foci,thus displaying different tendencies.
