Concept of Yin and Yang in Kidneys Based on Kan Gua

从八卦之坎卦论肾脏阴阳观。坎卦者,呈一阳抱二阴之势,真阳秘藏于水中,处于阴平阳秘的动态平衡状态。坎卦在脏为肾,以坎卦观肾之阴阳,则肾之阴阳亦处于阴平阳秘的动态平衡状态。肾之阴阳,有肾阴肾阳,有真阴真阳。若阴阳为病,可致虚火上冲。阴虚者,坎水不足以秘藏真阳,真阳破水而出成阴虚火旺证,以滋阴降火为治则;阳虚者,真阳不能制约坎水,坎水胁真阳上浮成虚阳浮越证,以温阳抑水为治则。二者均需治以纳气伏火,还藏真阳于水中,以复坎卦阴平阳秘之势。针对虚火上冲,在坎卦论肾脏阴阳观的理论基础上,以封髓丹为基础,辨证施治,应用三才封髓丹加减或潜阳封髓丹加减进行治疗。

Concept of yin and yang in kidney was discussed based on the kan gua from ba gua.Kan gua is the gram in which there is one yang hugging two yin,and genuine yang hides in the water,in a dynamic balance.Kan gua corresponds to kidneys in the viscera,and yin and yang in kidneys are also in a dynamic balance according to kan gua.There are kidney yin and kidney yang,genuine yin and genuine yang in the yin and yang in kidneys.If yin and yang are diseased,there would be uprising of deficient fire.In the case of yin deficiency,the kan water fails to hide the genuine yang,and genuine yang breaks through water leading to yin deficiency and excessive fire,which should be treated with nourishing yin and reducing fire.In the case of yang deficiency,the genuine yang can not restrict yin of kan water,and kan water brings genuine yang to float upwards,leading to deficient yang floating,which should be treated by warming yang and inhibiting water.Both should be treated by holding qi and hiding fire to restore genuine yang in water,so as to restore the dynamic balance of yin at peace and yang being compact.According to the concept of yin and yang in kidneys based on kan gua,for uprising of deficient fire,Fengsui Pill(封髓丹)is applied as the primary formula with syndrome differentiation and treatment.In clinic,Sancai Fengsui Pill(三才封髓丹)or Qianyang Fengsui Pill(潜阳封髓丹)is often applied with modification.
