Taking 16 prefectures of Yunnan Province as the research scale, this research analyzed the spatiotemporal evolution of the coupling situation between its urban lands expansion and population growth in the province during 2009—2019 by using the overall coupling model and spatial coupling characteristics. The results show that, the urban lands expansion and population growth rate from 2009 to 2019 present significant stage characteristics, which can be roughly divided into high-speed fluctuation growth and population growth. There are two stages of slow and gentle growth. At the same time, the speed of lands expansion and population growth is high, and the speed of population growth and lands expansion presents a coordinated pace. There is a significant spatial difference between the speed of urban lands expansion and population growth in 16 prefectures of the province.During 2009—2019,the overall movement direction of its urban Land Gravity Center is from southwest to northeast, and the movement direction of population gravity center is from south to north. These results show that the coupling of lands expansion and population growth is gradually enhanced and the coordination type of human vs.land is mainly land significant expansion. The coupling coordination of urban lands expansion and population growth is low,and the imbalance of human vs.land allocation is more prominent.
