光绪《湖南通志》中收录了众多碑记资料,包括建筑修造、功德、题名等。光绪《湖南通志》收录的碑记最早为东汉时期的碑刻,最晚至光绪年间,所收碑记文化内容十分丰富,主要包括:宣扬儒家仁爱忠孝之精神、展现湖湘理学的发展脉络、体现湘军及晚清湘系官员风貌、湖南地区儒学教育情况。光绪《湖南通志》中这些碑记的内容与文化内涵体现了湖湘文化乃至中国文化的基因与内核。

General Annals of Hunan edited during Guangxu period contains many tablet inscriptions,including notes of architectural construction,records of merits and virtues and autographs.The tablets inscriptions included in General Annals of Hunan were inscribed as early as in the Eastern Han Dynasty and late to Guangxu period in the late Qing Dynasty.The cultural content of the inscriptions is very rich,mainly including promoting the spirit of benevolence,love,loyalty and filial piety of Confucianism,showing the development context of Hunan Neo-Confucianism,reflecting the style of the Hunan Army and Hunan officials in the late Qing Dynasty,and the Confucian education in Hunan.The content and cultural connotations of these inscriptions are an important part of Hunan culture and even Chinese culture.
