鸥盟由《列子·黄帝》中的"鸥鹭忘机"衍化而来,始见于宋代。黄庭坚对它频频化用,绝妙佳句"此心吾与白鸥盟"出现之后,南宋文人纷纷在诗词中许下鸥盟之约,广泛运用这一意象。南宋以来,出现以鸥盟命名的亭轩阁馆,以鸥盟命名的文人字号和诗文集,以盟鸥为题的绘画和题画词。鸥盟成为士人追求的特定文化符号,表达隐逸之意。

Gull Alliance, a famous allusion about seclusion, originated in Liezi, and formed in the Song Dynasty. Huang Tingjian frequently used it. After that, it was widely used in poetry in the Song Dynasty. The literati in the Southern Song Dynasty widely used the image. Since then, there have been pavilions and towers, literati names and poetry collections, and paintings and calligraphy named after Gull Alliance, it has become a specific cultural symbol pursued by scholars to express the meaning of seclusion.
