张尔田是近代宿儒和诗词名家,其晚年文集的刊刻,由于时处抗战而颇费周折。通过对操办人之一吴丕绩相关书信的考释,可以大致还原众人谋刻张氏文集的艰难经过,对于了解张氏文字的保存流传内幕、动乱时代旧派文人的师生情谊均有一定的价值。

Zhang Ertian is an experienced scholar and famous expert on poetry in modern China. It was really challenging to get the anthology he wrote in his remaining years published because of the war against Japanese aggression. We can learn how difficult it was to publish the anthology of Zhang Ertian through reviewing the letters of Wu Piji, one of the contributors to the publication. And, it is also of value to know the inside story of keeping and passing down Zhang’s writings and the teacher & student friendship among old-school scholars in the time of turbulence.
