刘师培形象初探

A Preliminary Study of Liu Shipei’s Image

刘师培是处在近代中国社会转型期的传统知识分子,前人研究多关注于他的思想流变、国学成就、影响他革命与变节的内外因素,对于他的整体形象却较少关注。在科举时期、革命时期、幕僚时期和北大任教时期,刘师培的人物形象区别甚大。他兼具文人和政客两种身份,而儒雅的文人气质贯穿一生,传统文化的浸染、被政治和时局的摆弄、好友和家庭的影响、个人的性格节操、对功名的追求、疾病的缠身等都对他的形象塑造起了一定作用。刘师培形象的变幻也从侧面反映了在近代中国的社会政治文化变迁下,传统因素与现代因素的冲突和胶着,传统知识分子走向现代化的艰难与反复。

Liu Shipei is a traditional intellectual in the transitional period of modern Chinese society.Predecessors focused mainly on his thought changes,achievements in Chinese studies,internal and external factors that influenced his revolution and apostasy,and few had paid attention to his general image.During the imperial examination period,the revolutionary period,the period of aides,and the teaching period of Peking University,the character images were very different.He has both literary and politician identities.His refined literary temperament runs through his life.The influence of traditional culture,the manipulation by politics and current situation,the influence from friends and family,his personal integrity,the pursuit of fame,and the entanglement of diseases had played a certain role in shaping his image.The change of Liu Shipei’s image also reflects the conflict and stalemate between traditional and modern factors under the changes of modern society,politics and culture,and difficulties and repetitions for traditional intellectuals moving toward modernization.
