On the Characteristics of Marcuse’s Theory of One-Dimensionality

作为法兰克福学派的代表人物,马尔库塞《单向度的人》一书令其声名远播。马尔库塞分析了发达工业资本主义社会因为科学技术手段的进步,使得人们生活的向度愈发狭隘,以致走向"单向度"的社会现象,即带来人的生存方式的异化。"单向度"理论具有鲜明的批判性,对当代发达工业社会资本主义具有深刻的洞见,表现出了相当的合理性,但同时也存在一定的局限性。面对科学技术的突飞猛进,马尔库塞的思考对于今天的人们来说亦有颇多的参考价值。

As a representative of Frankfurt school,Marcuse's One-Dimensional Man has made him famous.He analyzed that the dimension of people’s life became narrower and narrower,leading to a one-dimensionality phenomenon,that is,the alienation of people’s way of life,due to the progress of scientific and technological means in the developed industrial capitalist society.The theory of one-dimensionality had distinct criticism and profound insight into the capitalism of contemporary developed industrial society,it showed both considerable rationality and some limitations.Facing the rapid development of science and technology,Marcuse’s thinking also had much reference value for people today.
