赛珍珠《水浒传》英译本是林语堂与赛珍珠交游中的重要环节。林语堂多次高度评价赛珍珠《水浒传》英译本的翻译质量,受美国米高梅公司之邀而担任《水浒传》影片的顾问(监制)以及为赛珍珠《水浒传》英译本而作的英文序言等相关史料,均与赛珍珠《水浒传》英译本在美国的成功出版密切相关。这一系列事件加深了林语堂和赛珍珠之间的友谊。

Pearl Buck’s English translation of The Water Margin was an important friendship link between Lin Yutang and Pearl Buck.Lin spoke highly of the translation quality of Pearl S.Buck’s version of The Water Margin for many times,acted as the consultant(producer)of The Water Margin film invited by MGM and wrote English preface for Pearl’s English translation.All the relevant historical materials were closely related to the successful publication of Pearl’s translation of The Water Margin in the United States.This series of events had deepened the friendship between Lin Yutang and Pearl Buck.
