Discourse on Anti-corruption:Anti-corruption Publicity Initiated by the People’s Daily in the Early Days of the Founding of the people’s Republic of China

中华人民共和国成立初期,开展反贪污斗争,严惩贪污分子是中国共产党治国理政、巩固新生政权的重要举措。历时半年多的反贪污斗争成效显著,与《人民日报》运用广泛影响力开展卓有成效的政策宣传密不可分。《人民日报》运用专栏文章、社论、漫画等形式,宣传反贪污斗争方针政策、重要指示,群众检举揭发和贪污分子检讨坦白情况,使广大党员干部和人民群众认识到反贪污斗争开展的紧迫性、必要性、可行性及其政治意义,在营造良好社会氛围,有效实现社会问题治理的同时,亦推动了增产节约等社会运动的开展。

In the early days of the founding of the People’s Republic of China,it was an important measure taken by the Communist Party of China to fight against corruption and severely punish corrupt elements in its effort to manage state affairs and consolidate the power base.The remarkable results of the anti-corruption campaign,which lasted for more than half a year,were inseparable from the effective publicity work carried out by the People’s Daily with its extensive influence.Via its featured columns,commentaries,cartoons and other forms,the People’s Daily gave publicity to a whole range of issues such as general and specific policies and important instructions regarding the anti-corruption campaign,whistling blowing deeds on the part of the mass public,as well as reflections and confessions on the part of grafters.These measures helped party members,party cadres and the broad masses to fully recognize the urgency,necessity,feasibility and significance of the anti-corruption struggle,which was conducive not only to creating a favorable social atmosphere and improving social governance,but also to promoting the synergized development of other social movements such as the drive to increase production and practice economy.
