“Jiangsu”is not a simple concept of modern administrative region.It is the result of the dramatic historical changes over time and was exposed to new culture and new thoughts in modern times.It is born in the long history and culture of the Southeast China and nurtured by its unique mountains and waters.So the“thoughts of Jiangsu”of“this land and its people”is not only a symbol of multiple cultural thoughts,but a vivid group statues of elites.The century-old Jiangsu literary thoughts records the intellectual genealogy of their rich and vivid imaginative world as well as the spiritual pilgrim of the pioneers of modern intellectuals.“Thoughts”arose from various“movements”:the gathering of individual scholars grew into revolutionary poetic societies that aimed at enlightening the mass and promulgating new thoughts;the rich region to the South of Yangtze generated the town life,ushering the modern popular literature;the rise of new-style education produced a batch of scholar critics who insisted on academic independence,creating a new cultural field for literary criticism,forging a school of century-old Chinese literary thoughts and leading the trend of the multiple thoughts of the New Literature;the new idea of modern“study of man”was found in the combination of literature with life,with the proletarians and with the mass.
