In the information transmission related to the COVID-19 epidemic, the rational reception of the information is particularly important for the public. At the same time, emotional expressions are all over the information channels and people are often touched by them. Will emotion interfere with the rational recognition of the facts?Based on a questionnaire survey covering all the 30 provincial regions in China, the research shows that rational and emotional responses are not always mutually exclusive, and there is positive correlation between them, and demographic characteristics, information topic involvement and information receiving channels all affect the mode of response. Therefore it is necessary to reexamine the relation between rationality and emotion in health communication, wary of the simplified binary logic regarding the emotional as the irrational.
