Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)is a highly contagious acute respiratory disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2).The clinical manifestations of the disease are different.Mild disease severity manifests as upper respiratory tract infection, and severe disease severity likely extend to the lower respiratory tract infection, and the most serious immediate life-threatening complication, including acute respiratory distress syndrome(ARDS),septic shock, and multiple organ failure. At present,Etiology and pathogenesis of COVID-19 is unclear, but the pathological studies indicate that there are a large number of neutrophil extracellular traps(NETs)in lung, kidney and liver tissues of COVID-19 patients. Therefore,it further speculates that NETs are capable of involvement in progression of COVID-19.This paper is a brief review of the advances in research into NETs in severe COVID-19.
