A total of 45 samples of five different types of fugitive dusts(road dust, atmospheric dustfall, storage yard dust, soil dust and construction dust)were collected in Xiaogan,Hubei. The contents of black carbon(BC),char, and soot were measured by thermal-optical reflectance(TOR)method. The results indicated that:(1)BC content in the fugitive dusts of Xiaogan was 0.02-10.65 g/kg,with an average value of 1.45 g/kg.The five different types of fugitive dusts followed a order of road dust>soil dust>construction dust>atmosphere dustfall>storage yard dust in terms of mean BC concentration.(2)The mean values of BC/TOC and char/soot mass ratios in the fugitive dust were 0.34 and 1.92,respectively,indicating that burning of fossil fuels and biomass were both sources of BC.(3)Significant positive correlation was observed between BC and TOC,char and soot in the fugitive dusts.According to the slope of the linear fitting equation,it was suggested that the main contribution source of BC in fugitive dusts was char.
