The article analyses the Indo-pacific cooperation between Australia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations(ASEAN).It reviews the history of the relations between the two sides,and gradually demonstrates the characteristics of the various stages of the Indo-Pacific system and the impacts of its recent evolution on the relations between ASEAN and Australia.The existing academic literature provides a general understanding of this relations,but as far as the relations among the economies of the Indo-Pacific region and the strategic trend of the Indo-Pacific have emerged in recent years,there is still room for improvement in the depth and accuracy in these regards.The Indo-Pacific region as a multilateral initiative,if approached from the perspective of Australia-ASEAN cooperation,has bleak prospects.Specifically,it carries dividing rather than consolidating implications for the Australia-ASEAN relations,which,among other factors,demonstrates that the project lacks necessary resources,including a well-developed intellectual foundation and a limited operational capability.Hence,the interplay of the research focus and the obtained results makes the paper academically unique.
