Eliminating urban-rural opposition and promoting urban-rural integration are Marxist social ideals.The characteristic and integrated development of urban and rural education is a new stage and goal that urban and rural education in New China is marching forward to adapt to and promote economic and social development.It has gone through the stages from the urban-rural dualism at the beginning of the founding of the People’s Republic of China to the unified urban-rural market,overall urban-rural development,rural urbanization and balanced development of urban-rural integration since the reform and opening up.It is the common development of urban and rural education with its own characteristics,complementary advantages,mutual integration and promotion.It is the only way and important symbol for the balanced development and modernization of urban and rural education.It is not only one side of urban and rural education and the complete urbanization of rural education.To promote the characteristic and integrated development of urban and rural education,we should effectively resolve the contradiction between the urbanization of rural education and the revitalization of rural education.
