The Gain and Loss Theory of Chen Jing’s Tong Jian Xu Bian

《通鑑續編》除了補充以前《資治通鑑》未備之遠古敍述和契丹早期歷史的最初兩卷之外,其餘二十二卷都是記述宋代歷史。相比較元代坊間之作《宋史全文》,《通鑑續編》是陳桱獨力完成的兩宋史。雖然名爲"通鑑續編",在時間上接續《資治通鑑》,但就史書體裁而言,則是綱目體,是對朱熹《資治通鑑綱目》的接續。考察《通鑑續編》編纂的艱難過程,重點在於闡發此書的價值,而對於其中存在問題的發覆,亦希望引起研究者的警覺。

In addition to supplementing the ancient narrative and the first two volumes of the early history of Qi Dan that were not available in Zi Zhi Tong Jian,the other 22 volumes of Tong Jian Xu Bian are all about the history of Song Dynasty.Compared with Song Shi Quan Wen,an anecdotal publishment in Yuan Dynasty,Tong Jian Xu Bian is the history of the two Song Dynasties completed by Chen Jing.Although it is called Tong Jian Xu Bian,in terms of time it continues the narrative of Zi Zhi Tong Jian.As far as the genre of history books is Gang Mu Ti,it is a continuation of Zhu Xi’s Zi Zhi Tong Jian Gang Mu.Investigating the difficult process of compiling Tong Jian Xu Bian,the emphasis is on expounding the value of this book,and I also hope to arouse the researchers’vigilance for the development of the existing problems.
