In the"three variations of women"promoted by Jia Baoyu,he divided a woman's life into three catogories in a metaphor way,that is,if a girl was not married,she was a precious pearl;if the girl got married,she became a dead and dried pearl;but as she became older,then she ended as a fish's eye.The author of this article makes an analysis of the aesthetic ideal of Cao Xueqin based on the"three variations of women"which was proposed by Jia Baoyu,and gets the conclusion that the three stages of a woman's life reflect the three different states of Cao Xueqin's aesthetic ideal respectively,that is,"a precious pearl"is the root of his aesthetic ideal,"a dead and dried pearl"is his aesthetic ideal's alienation,and"a fish's eye"is the disillusionment of Cao Xueqin's aesthetic ideal.
