On ‘Princess Consort Zhang’s Lao-Pan’

湖南省长沙市风篷岭西汉墓M1出土几件"张姬橯槃"。"姬",应理解为"王妻别名"。"橯"从"木",是受"槃"字的类化,当读为"醪",是"酒之别名"。"槃"即"盘"的籀文。"张姬橯槃",指一名姓张的王妃喝酒用的小盘。"张姬橯槃"的尺寸与其用途正好匹配。

Several pieces of utensils bearing‘Princess Consort Zhang’s Lao-Pan’have been unearthed from a Western Han tomb M1 in Mountain Fengpeng,Changsha,Hunan Province.‘姬(jī)’means‘another name for the marquis’s wife’.‘橯(lào)’,consisting of a radical‘木’and in assimilation with the‘槃(pán)’,should be pronounced as‘醪(láo)’,meaning‘another name for wine’.‘槃(pán)’is‘盘(pán)’written in Big Seal Character.‘张(zhāng)姬(jī)橯(lào)槃(pán)’refers to‘the utensil Princess Consort Zhang uses while drinking wine’.The sizes of the utensils have been found matching their uses.
