密歇根大学的中国学之历史渊源与研究特色

The Historical Origin and Research Characteristics of Chinese Studies in University of Michigan

本文梳理了美国密歇根大学的中国学之历史渊源与研究特色。密大的中国研究始于19世纪末的留学生教育。1930年开设"东方语言和文学系",1959年建立"亚洲图书馆",20世纪60年代初设立"亚洲语言与文学系",1961年成立"中国研究中心"。密大在汉语教学、图书馆学、哲学、政治、外交、经济、文学与艺术等专业领域的"中国研究"或"中国学"引领美国高校,尤其是人文、艺术与政治的跨学科研究领域引人瞩目,涌现了费维恺、孟旦、李侃如、包华石、博达伟等一批著名的汉学家。本研究有助于我们了解密歇根大学的中国学研究成果,进一步推进中美之间的跨文化理解与合作。

This paper sorts out the historical origin and research characteristics of Chinese studies in University of Michigan.Chinese Studies in University of Michigan began in the late 19 th century with the education of Chinese students abroad.The Department of Oriental Languages and Literature was established in the 1930 s;Asian Library which was established in 1959;School of Asian Languages and Literature was established in the early 1960 s,and Center of Chinese Studies(CCS)in 1961."China Studies" or "Sinology" at the University of Michigan are growing rapidly in the fields of Chinese language teaching,library science,philosophy,politics,diplomacy,economics,literature and the arts.It has led American universities,especially in the interdisciplinary fields of humanities,arts and politics.A number of outstanding sinologists have emerged such as Albert Feuerwerker,Donald J.Munro,Kenneth G.Lieberthal,Martin Powers,David Porter.This study will help us to understand the achievements of Chinese studies in University of Michigan,and further promote the cross-cultural understanding and cooperation between China and U.S.
