Japanese Monk Zekkai Chuushin’s Chants in Jiangsu and Zhejiang Provinces

绝海中津(1336-1405)堪称是日本中世禅林文学(五山文学)的代表性人物,有诗文集《蕉坚稿》传世。绝海曾在明九年,遍访江浙名山,师从季潭宗泐、清远怀渭等高僧修习禅法。其间主要活动于杭州中天竺寺和南京天界寺,与当地禅僧多有诗歌唱和,亦长于咏景怀古及题写画赞。中日两国对《蕉坚稿》的注释及研究都尚处于基础阶段,注释中疏漏及谬误颇多,且研究的焦点多集中于其生平及中日文化交流方面,对其诗文进行深入解读的论著几乎没有。本文将选取其中在明期间与江浙相关的诗作,重新进行整理和解读,注前人所未注,解前人所未解。

Zekkai Chuushin(1336-1405),the author of Shokenko,could be considered as the leading figure of Japanese Chanlin Literature(Gozan Literature in Japan).In Ming Dynasty,Zekkai Chuushin had been living in China for nine years while he was visiting the well-known mountains in Jiangsu and Zhejiang where he was sharing poems with the Zen monks regularly.He studied Zen with eminent monks such as Jitan Zongle and Qingyuan Huaiwei.During this period,he mainly lived in Zhongtianzhu Temple in Hangzhou and Tianjie Temple in Nanjing.He wrote poems with local Zen monks,and was good at chanting about the scenery and nostalgia,and making praise for painting.The annotation and research relating to Shokenko in China and Japan are still at a basic stage,and there are many omissions and fallacies in the annotation.The focus of the research is mainly on his life and Sino-Japanese cultural exchange,and there is almost no in-depth interpretation of his poems and essays.This paper will select the poems related to Jiangsu and Zhejiang in the Ming Dynasty,reorganize and interpret them again,annotate what the predecessors have not noted,and explain what the predecessors have not explained.
