Language Strategy on Lin Shu’s Translation Writing

林纾译笔即林纾的翻译文笔,是林译小说译介方式与文学表达的文本显现。为达到译文与原文的信息对等,林纾在借鉴"言文合一"观念的基础上,有意在文言译文内添加大量的白话俗语。这种"文白相融"的语言策略不仅打破了古文笔法的诸多禁锢,同时也呈现出书面话语的近代变革之势;译介层面的双语转化夹杂着欧式语言的渗入,林纾译笔对于欧化词法和欧化句法的吸收,改变了文言原有的书写特性与语句框架,进而表现为"新"与"旧"的叙述叠合;新旧交融下的译介活动又催生了"注"与"评"等译笔补充形式。这类注评以副文本为表现,从而成为林纾针砭时弊、宣扬爱国保种之情的文本场域。林纾译笔既吸收古文之典雅,又融合今文之新奇,在中西文化的交流碰撞中促进传统小说文笔的现代嬗变。

Lin Shu’s Yi Bi,that is Lin Shu’s translation writing,it is the text manifestation of the translation mode and literary expression on Lin Shu’s translated novels.In order to achieve the information equivalence between the translation and the original text,Lin Shu deliberately adds a large number of vernacular sayings in classical Chinese translation on the basis of learning from the concept of“unity of classical language and vernacular language”.This language strategy of“integration of classical Chinese and vernacular Chinese”not only breaks many constraints of ancient Chinese prose in writing,but also shows the trend of modern reform of written discourse;The bilingual transformation at the level of translation is mixed with the infiltration of European language.The absorption of Europeanized morphology and Europeanized syntax in Lin Shu’s translation writing has changed the original writing characteristics and sentence framework of classical Chinese,and then manifested as the narrative superposition of“new”and“old”;The translation activity under the integration of the old and the new which gave birth to the supplementary forms of Lin Shu’s translation writing such as“annotation”and“comment”.This kind of annotation and comment is represented as the sub-text,which has become the text field for Lin Shu to point out the social problems and promote people’s patriotic feeling.Lin Shu’s translation writing not only absorbs the elegance of ancient literature,but also integrates the novelty of modern literature,which promotes the modern evolution of traditional novel writing in the exchange and collision between Chinese and Western cultures.
