Conferment System of Yansheng Duke in Jin Dynasty

衍圣公是北宋时期出现的专门封授孔子后裔的爵位,该爵位最初只是虚爵,但在金朝建立后,为了缓和民族矛盾、发展国家文化,大力提倡"尊孔崇儒",不仅将宋朝的衍圣公封授制度引入国内,而且还将曲阜县令作为衍圣公的世袭官职,从而使孔子后裔的职务待遇和社会地位都得到了空前的提升,也为后世政权继续提升衍圣公的身份和地位打下了基础。

Yansheng Duke is a special title conferred on descendants of Confucius in the Northern Song Dynasty.The title was only a nominal title at first,but after the establishment of the Jin Dynasty,in order to ease ethnic conflicts and develop national culture,Confucius and Confucianism were strongly advocated.The Jin Dynasty introduced the Yansheng Duke conferment system from the Song Dynasty and made Qufu county magistrate as the hereditary official position of title,so that the post and social status of the descendants of Confucius had been unprecedentedly improved,and also laid the foundation for the later regimes to continue to enhance the identity and status of the title.
