This paper presents the analysis of lotus-shaped features that were attached to stem-shaped columns in brick-chambered tombs in Hepu dating to the Late Eastern Han and Three-Kingdoms periods. This paper suggests that such features might have been the model of zaojing in brick-chambered tombs. As a decorative motif that was commonly found in both the East and the West, the appearance of zaojing in Hepu indicates not only the influence from the traditional Chinese palace architecture and burial customs but also a case of cultural interaction between the East and the West that took place alone the maritime Silk Roads.
