This article is an interview with Robert T. Tally Jr., a leading scholar of Spatial Literary Studies in the United States, and is also a dialogue about "spatial literary studies"(at Ningbo University in November, 2019). Tally claims that the concept of "spatial literary studies" can broadly encompass almost any approach to the text that focuses attention on space, place, and mapping, such as geocriticism, geopoetics, the spatial humanities, etc. However, this concept should not be over-generalized or deemed as a label. The core of spatial literary studies, which are first of all a sub-field of literature, is(literary) spatiality. Tally also explains the distinctions between some similar and relevant concepts, such as geocriticism, spatial criticism, literary geography, and topophrenia, as well as distinguishes "space" from "geography", "spatial" from "geo-." With respect to the new trend of spatial literary studies, Tally observes that the following deserve much attention: the combination of digital humanities and spatial humanities, feminist geography, critical regionalism, genre fiction, mobility study, etc.
