“In my hometown, they usually call me‘Mr.China’,”said 69-year-old British man David Valentine in an interview with the media of Shandong.Over the past 20 years, this British man has visited China more than 60 times, and has been to Shandong nearly 50 times. At a recent dialogue on friendship and cooperation between Shandong and Scotland,David Valentine was awarded the title of“Honorary Citizen of Shandong”.At the age of six,David saw a photo from China in a textbook, which greatly resonated with him.His compassion and curiosity for that Chinese family has stayed with him,and foreshadowed his China Complex that lasted for many years afterwards.
