In September 2021,the world’s largest industrial plant to pull carbon dioxide(CO_(2))directly out of the atmosphere officially became operational in Iceland.Designed and built by the Zurich,Switzerland-based company Climeworks,its“Orca”facility—the company claims—can remove and permanently store 4000 t of CO_(2) per year(Fig.1)[1].
