From“Art for Society’s Sake”to“Art for Art’s Sake”:the Change in Orientation of the Earlier Art Works by Lin Fengmian(1921–1938)

摘要 林风眠早期的艺术与成熟时期的艺术有着极大区别,呈现出极强的“为社会的艺术”的特点,作品积极表现社会现实,揭露黑暗与残暴,鼓舞人们的抗争精神与斗志。他的艺术主张亦呈现出拯国救民的强烈的社会责任感。同时,林风眠早期的艺术比较前卫,社会接受程度不高,无论是绘画的技法语言还是绘画的主题都远远超出当时画界、社会民众的接受能力,这也正体现出他对中国美术现代化的思考与探索。 Different from those in his mature period,Lin Fengmian’s works in his earlier period have a strong feature of“art for society’s Sake”.His early works reflect actively social realities,expose the dark and violent side of the times,and encourage defiance and resistance.Meanwhile,his artistic views then demonstrate a strong sense of social responsibility to save his country and its people.In addition,Lin’s earlier works were ahead of his time,which resulted in a low social acceptance.His skills applied in his works and the themes of those works were both beyond comprehension to his peer artists and the public,which,in turn,manifests his thinking and exploration of the modernization of Chinese art.
