A Review of the Development of Science and Technology in Ningxia During the 1930s and 1940s

20世纪三四十年代宁夏对科技的应用是在晚清基础上逐步展开的,先后应用于邮电交通、水利与农业、畜牧科技、工业、医疗领域,对区域社会控制、政治统治及社会经济生活产生一定作用。这表明民国时期宁夏经济已具有现代科学技术因素及现代企业制度雏形,也表明20世纪三四十年代宁夏经济及科技现代化的缓慢起步。

This paper reviews the main scientific and technological development in Ningxia Province during the 1930s and 1940s,focusing on the achievements in the fields of post and telecommunications,water conservancy,agriculture,animal husbandry,industry and health care.These achievements were made gradually on the foundation built in the late Qing Dynasty(1644-1912),which played a certain role in the regional social control,political rule and social and economic life.The study shows that the economy of Ningxia in the Republic of China(1912-1949)already had modern scientific and technological factors and the early form of modern enterprise system,and that Ningxia’s economic and technological modernization started slowly in the 1930s and 1940s.
