“Allegory of Venus and Cupid”has always been known for its complex themes and multiple interpretations of later generations.Among them, the woman with human face and animal body in the lower right corner has attracted the attention of many scholars.Cleverly placed behind“Folly”,so she is a concealed image, also given the meaning of metaphor. Here, the author attempts to clarify the identity of this anthropomorphic portrait. The academic community usually regards this anthropomorphic image as“Fraude”,but with the in-depth study of this image, its interpretation gradually deviates from anthropomorphic.Because of the similarity between this image and the Sphinx scheme, some scholars regard her as the embodiment of Sphinx. This article will interpret this anthropomorphic figure through the intertextuality between the painting and the source text, and draw a double interpretation of“Fraude”and Sphinx.
