This essay provides an overview of the interaction between various film practices and socio-politics in Latin American countries from 1959 to 1989.Between Cuban revolution in 1959 and the fall of Berlin Wall in 1989,the thirty years witnessed Latin American film workers’great efforts in film making, circulation, and theorization as a means to struggle against neocolonialism, imperialism, and capitalism which caused suffering of local people and financial-political-cultural dependency on Euro-American capitalist powers.Radical film movements and concepts such as“third cinema,”“film guerilla group,”“cinema novo,”and“imperfect cinema”epitomize film workers’persistent and righteous engagement with social reality and history.
