英语二语“直接宾语/主语”类花园路径句加工的时间进程 被引量:2

The Time Course of Processing English “Direct Object/Subject” Garden Path Sentences by L2 Learners

摘要 本文利用眼动技术研究了中国学习者加工英语二语"直接宾语/主语"类花园路径句的时间进程。线性混合模型分析发现:(1)受试加工花园路径句的时间在从句动词和歧义名词区、消歧动词区和剩余成分区的不同眼动指标上都与加工非花园路径句的时间存在显著差异,表明中国学习者在此类花园路径句加工中存在着花园路径效应;(2)只有高水平组在消歧动词区阅读花园路径句的回视路径时间显著长于非花园路径句的时间,二语水平影响了花园路径效应。据此,我们构建了中国学习者英语二语花园路径句加工时间进程图:花园路径效应表现在不同兴趣区的不同阶段,阅读过程并非线性逐字阅读,而是存在回视和跳读;二语水平对该效应的影响表现在消歧动词区的晚期加工阶段。 The present study investigated the time course of processing English“direct object/subject”garden path sentences with eye-tracking technique while Chinese English learners read English garden path sentences online. Linear mixed model results revealed that:(1) reading time for garden path sentences was significantly different from that for non-garden path sentences across different processing stages in terms of subordinate verb plus ambiguous noun region,disambiguation verb region and final region, which indicates that Chinese English learners elicited garden path effects in different regions across processing stages;and(2) only advanced English learners’ regression path reading time for garden path sentences was noticeably slower than that for non-garden path sentences in disambiguation verb region, which demonstrates that L2 proficiency levels influenced garden path effects. Based on these findings, we presented the schema showing the time course of processing garden path sentences for Chinese English learners: garden path effects are triggered in different regions and processing stages, learners do not read garden path sentences word by word, and L2 proficiency levels influence garden path effects in the disambiguation verb region across late processing stages.
