“求真—务实”儿童文学翻译批评模式下“非人”角色姓名翻译——《西游记》全英译本比较

On Non-human Characters’Names Translation of Journey to the West Under the“Truth Seeking-Utility Attaining”Children Literature Evaluation Mode

摘要 神魔小说《西游记》不仅符合儿童泛灵性认知特征,而且是中国义务教育阶段必读书目,在儿童文学中占有重要地位。众多《西游记》英译本中,仅存两部全译本,世人对其评议纷纷莫衷一是。利用从“求真—务实”翻译批评模式演化而来的儿童文学翻译批评视域,比较研究了两个全译本对原著中三百多个“非人”角色姓名的翻译处理,在一探何本全译本更符儿童读者阅读需求的同时,探索符合儿童文学特质的翻译之道。同时,亦是对该儿童文学翻译批评新模式的可操作性和科学性做一次验证和推介。 The Chinese fiction canon Journey to the West,conforming to children’s animistic cognition on the top of must-read book-list for Chinese children receiving compulsory education,boasts its solid foundation in children’s literature in China.Even though there has been much debate on the only existing two full-text translated versions by Jenner and Anthony Yu respectively,there is no consensus on which is a better one.The study compares the English renditions of the names of the non-human characters in the two full-text versions under the“Truth Seeking-Utility Attaining”translation evaluation mode of children’s literature,trying to figure out what can be done to realize the value and function of literary works for children to win more target children readers,meanwhile,verifying whether the above mentioned new-born translation evaluation mode of children’s literature is operational and scientific.
